3 Ways to Use Essential Oils

There are 3 ways to use essential oils and I'd bet you're already feeling effects of essential oils naturally without even purchasing a bottle from me. Check it out

SMELL

The first way to use essential oils is through smell.

The quickest way to get benefits from your oils is by diffusing or breathing a drop out of cupped hands. The aroma of the oil will enter your olfactory system to affect mood, energy, and even physical responses.

A non oil example of how this works that you may be familiar with is laughing gas from the dentist. You breathe this in and within seconds your body is relaxed, pain is stopped or limited, and you may even experience laughing or euphoria.

Anything we smell and breathe in affects us. Smelling flowers on a walk, vanilla as you bake, oranges as you peel them. You’re already experiencing the aromatic effects of essential oils within nature!

If you have a diffuser you can help create the feeling or mood in your environment through diffusing essential oils. Your hands are a personal and on-the-go diffuser.

To Diffuse:

I do at least 5 drops of oil (single or combination) in the bottom of the diffuser before adding water. Add water to the fill line, replace the lid and turn it on.

To use your hands:

Put 1-2 drops of oil in your palm and rub your hands together. Cup both hands over your mouth and nose and breathe in several times.

Diffusing is a quick and easy way to make using essentials part of your daily lifestyle.

TOUCH

Anytime an oil touches your skin you are using it topically. Our skin is our largest organ and can absorb and use essential oils in countless ways.

Irritated skin like burns, bites, scrapes, scars, acne

To help calm or stimulate the body

To support the natural functions of our body (respiratory, immune, digestive, etc.)

Some of the best places to apply oils are over the spine, chest, pulse points, and bottoms of feet. But they can be applied anywhere, just take caution to dilute and avoid sensitive areas.

Some oils are “hot” or warming and can cause an unwanted sensation. To neutralize the effect add carrier oil (NOT WATER). This can be coconut oil, olive oil, or even milk or butter in a pinch.

Add essential oils to your favorite lotions or cremes or put several drops in epsom salt for your next bath. These are simple ways you can get the benefits topically from touch.

INGEST

Using oils internally can be very beneficial, but please make sure you are using essential oils from a company you trust that are tested and pure! I use doTERRA because they test all of their oils and publish the results. (For more information on this process, click here.)

Essential oils can be taken in capsules, added to water or drinks, cooked or baked into foods, or dropped under the tongue.

There are amazing benefits for digestion and cellular support. Herb and Spice oils can even be used in place of your current spice cabinet.

If you are new to oils and aren’t comfortable ingesting oils at first, that’s okay! Use them aromatically and topically and you will still experience incredible benefits. If you would like help knowing what to use or how to use it, message me on Instagram or email me.
